用推文好像沒把意思寫清楚，我回覆一下:
Determined a bout of the flue wouldn`t ruin his only chance to see his son
and daughter.
這個句子如果真的是分詞構句的話，其實應該是" ,determined (that) a bout of the
flue wouldn't ruin his only chance to see his son and daughter."。(注意開頭
的大小寫還有標點符號)
然後整句還原出來就是
"He was determined that a bout of the flue wouldn't ruin his only chance to
see his son and daugther."
但如果真的是像原PO寫的那樣...那也就只有兩個可能(其實我懷疑不太會有人把句子縮成
最後那樣，但就硬是分析看看好了)。
一個是"He was determined that a bout of the flue wouldn't ruin his only chance
to see his son and daugther."
另一個是"He determined that a bout of the flue wouldn't ruin his only chance
to see his son and daugther."
你會發現determined當形容詞用跟determined當動詞用的時候，其實都會有一個在後方
接that子句的用法，而且意思相去不遠(都是說主詞下定決心如何如何等等)。但如果句子
是第一個的簡化(也就是把he was刪去)，那句子就已經變成跟分構同型了，卻又因為
句子第一個字是用大寫而變得很奇怪；而且如同前面所言，把主詞或者主詞跟動詞刪
去的寫法其實讓句子看起來沒頭沒尾的，所以我真的很懷疑是不是原PO的句子寫錯了
如果硬要說最後一個句子是分構，然後原PO"大致上"沒把原句打錯的話，還有一個可能是
determined後頭沒有加逗號，那就變成"determined,a bout of the flue wouldn't ruin
his only chance to see his son and daugther."。但這個我猜多數人都看得出來會變
成Dangling Modifiers......(句意上從前後文看，determined明顯是用來修飾人，
總不可能下定決心的是a bout of the flue吧
順帶問一個問題，我總覺得應該是a bout of the flu而不是a bout of the flue，因為
a bout of通常是用來指什麼什麼病發作的意思。一般說流感發作了就是說a bout of the
flu，寫成a bout of the flue這種用法我還是第一次看到；我特別去查了一下原文的
出處，其實原文章底下就已經標明說"THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT
BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED."，所以我會直接把a bout of the flue
當成筆誤看待，不知道其他人有何看法?
