It’s previously been stated that the Los Angeles Lakers feel point guard
Jeremy Lin has untapped offensive potential.

Given that, might Lin be a better play in Southern California than he was
during his tenure with the Houston Rockets? It seems to be a sentiment many
believe, including Joel Brigham of Basketball Insiders. The analyst isn’t
going as far as to suggest we’ll see the Jeremy Lin we saw during his
stretch with the New York Knicks, but he does expect to see an improvement
with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lin was brought in to start at point guard, and with Steve Nash having spent
so much of the last few seasons hurt, there’s every reason to think Lin will
get a full workload this year. I like him as a scorer, but he’s obviously
not a traditional point guard the way Nash would be if healthy. In short, I
think we’re looking at better than his time in Houston, but not as good as
his time in New York.

One thing that should benefit Jeremy Lin greatly is the fact the Los Angeles
Lakers plan to use the pick-and-roll often. Such a play (or a pick-and-pop)
is great for Lin, not only because of his shooting ability, but because the
Lakers employ a collection of big men who can hit an outside shot.

That wasn’t something Jeremy Lin could use to his advantage very often with
the Houston Rockets, so it seems as if the Los Angeles Lakers were thinking
about Lin’s fit well before they traded for the guard.
