Bucks-Mavericks Preview
Monta Ellis has been on quite a roll for the Dallas Mavericks, including when
he handed his former team a crushing defeat just four days ago.

He hopes to continue his impressive run as Dallas looks to win a fifth
straight meeting with the visiting Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday night.

Ellis has three 30-point games while averaging 28.4 over his last five. He
shot 14 of 22 from the field and netted 33 in Friday's 118-106 loss to
Phoenix that ended a four-game winning streak for the Mavericks (15-6).

He's also delivered some clutch moments recently. Ellis hit three free throws
to force overtime and made a late 3-pointer in the second OT of Tuesday's
132-129 win over Chicago, then drained a fadeaway jumper at the buzzer in
Wednesday's 107-105 victory over Milwaukee (11-10).

Ellis, who played part of 2011-12 and all of 2012-13 with the Bucks before
signing with Dallas, finished with 23 points in that contest.

Dirk Nowitzki sat out that night to rest his sore back before returning
against the Suns, but he shot 2 of 10 from the field and scored a season-low
10 points.

Dallas suffered its first loss when scoring more than 100 points in part
because it trailed 40-27 after one quarter.

"When you start out giving up a 40-point first quarter, you're just not ready
to play defensively. I take responsibility for the effort," coach Rick
Carlisle said. "I have got to get these guys more ready to play than I did."

Tyson Chandler recorded his fifth double-double in six games - including an

but he was disappointed with the defensive performance. Dallas ranks near the
bottom of the league in points allowed at 102.5 per game, including 110.0
over its last seven.

Milwaukee shot 52.1 percent in Wednesday's meeting before hitting a
season-high 56.5 percent in Friday's 109-85 win over Miami to snap a
three-game losing streak.

Brandon Knight, who scored 25 against the Mavericks, had 13 in only 20-plus
minutes due to foul trouble, but Kendall Marshall came off the bench in his
place and scored a career-high 20.

"When Knight gets in trouble, Kendall steps right in and helps us find a way

Milwaukee's bench outscored Miami's 60-18, as Khris Middleton (14 points) and
Jerryd Bayless (12) also turned in solid efforts. Starters Giannis
Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker finished with 14 points apiece.

"We have to find a way to do that for 48 minutes consistently," Marshall
said. "That's what the great teams do in this league and that's what we're
striving to be."

The Bucks are allowing an average of 98.7 points, but they've held four of
their last seven opponents under 90. They rank near the top of the league in
turnovers forced per game at 16.8, just behind Dallas' average of 18.0.

"It really starts on the defensive end," Marshall said. "We were able to get
