It's simply not time to trade Felix Hernandez. That time may come at some
point, but it's not now, and it's probably not this coming winter, either.
The first day I'd start fielding calls, if I were GM Jack Zduriencik, is next
summer if my clubs is still not in contention. I may not deal him then,
either, as it could take into the winter after that. The right deal is going
to be awfully tough to come by.
The Mariners, however, are better off keeping Hernandez and continuing the
build the rotation around him, while the young bats catch up and Zduriencik
looks to deal for proven hitters to support them.
