ers, who lack the concept of sortal classifiers in their mother tongue, had be
tter performance on sortal classifiers than on mensural classifier; yet, in te
rms of competition between L1 and L2, it can serve as a theory to further expl
ain the findings in this study. From the competition between L1 and L2 aspect,
English speakers might extract the concept of mensural classifiers existing i
n their native languages, at the same time they had to distinguish the Chinese
mensural classifiers, thus causing the cognitive loads. To sum up, the study
not only examine the theories of bilingualism in previous studies, but also pr
ovide different approaches for future bilingual studies of psycholinguistics a
nd bring practical help for second language learners and teachers.
