Who should engage a recruiter?
Everyone! If you are an experience professional actively looking for a career
move, recruiters can (and should) be your best friends! Letting recruiters
know that you are on the market allow them to actively look and find
opportunities that fit you. Many recruiters at the top of their game can
anticipate the needs of their client companies, thus allowing them to
approach the right clients with your profile even before a position has been
created. Even if you are not “actively” looking for a job, it is
still advisable to build relationships with recruiters (and certainly allow
them to contact you) because you never know when that dream job opens up. A lot
of high-level jobs these days are never advertised externally but filled
directly through specialty recruiters.
Although most recruiters work with experienced candidates, there are some
recruitment agencies specifically designed to recruit fresh graduates. For
example, in the UK, graduates can join the REC (Recruitment & Employment
Confederation) to connect with thousands of graduate recruitment agencies or
directly utilize agencies such as the GRB, which is generally recognized as
UK’s leading recruitment firm for new graduates. Other agencies that are very
suitable for graduates are “temp recruitment agencies,” which handles
temporary job placements and may help graduates gain the initial experience
necessary to be considered for more advanced roles.
