防疫官員則呼籲美國民眾盡量保持「社交距離」(social distance)。
美國公佈的新版防疫指南，建議民眾參加聚會活動不要超過10個人，
如果聚會超過10個人，那就不要去。

如果某地出現社區感染，就要關閉學校及其週邊地區，
並關閉餐廳、美食廣場、酒吧、健身房、體育館、電影院、演唱會...等民眾聚集的場所。
「這些防疫指南的要求並不會太超過，都是有仔細考量的。」
執掌美國「國家過敏及感染研究院」的大老Anthony Fauci如此說。

President Donald Trump said Monday that the U.S. may be able to get the new coronavirus outbreak under control by July or August at the earliest.
Trump also said his administration may look at lockdowns for "certain areas" or "hot spots" in the nation, but said he wasn't considering a full national lockdown.
Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, said at the press conference that the new guidelines may seem like they go too far, but "they were well thought out."
"It isn't an overreaction," Fauci said.
美國的防疫指南還建議民眾
○如果有家人染病，全家人都要隔離在家，不要去工作上學。
○老人要待在家裡，不要出門，並遠離他人。
○如非必要，就不要去旅行、逛街購物、不要去社交拜訪親友。
○不要在餐廳或酒吧店內用餐，改成得來速、外帶、外送。
○不要去療養院、退休養老院、長期照護中心，除非你是必要人員。
○保持個人良好衛生習慣，常洗手，用手臂蓋住自己的咳嗽...
尤其是在摸到那些被很多人接觸過的東西之後，更要洗手。
手不要去摸自己的臉 (口、鼻、眼)。

1918年西班牙流感，當時美國費城疫情大爆發，但聖路易斯市的疫情一直都有控制住，
並沒有大爆發。
因為費城是等到出現首位病例的16天後，才禁止民眾聚會活動，如教堂、音樂會、餐廳、舞廳。
而聖路易斯市則是在出現首位病例的兩天後就馬上禁止各種民眾的聚會活動，成功控制住疫情。
