有要考7/26以後的新制托福同學，不知道有沒有看過評分Rubrics了呢？

如果要以最高分數區間Score of 5為目標，在例子、文法用字的表現
均有標準可以參考，同學們一定要仔細閱讀並理解喔。

隨著科技進步，考生可以自行檢查文法或是潤飾的工具也變多元了，
其中同學們也有嘗試如chatGPT的ai工具。
但是使用ai協助潤飾真的就會讓作文比較好嗎？
我們來看看一份最近我改到的作業。

這題是現行Task 2機經，題目是
A/D: It is beneficial to stop reading and listening to the news
for a few days or weeks.
以下是作文的其中一個body paragraph，大家可以先讀讀看：
In addition, engaging with news daily is part and parcel of an
empowered life. In an ever-changing world, traditional shared
values have crumbled, and social media algorithms have created
echo chambers, fueling political polarization. Moreover, Neil
Postman foresaw how passive entertainment hinders substantive
information and critical discourse. Therefore, staying informed
through daily news helps us to form coherent beliefs to overcome
pitfalls of nihilism, technology, and entertainment. Widespread
sharing of fake news and conspiracy theories on social media
further highlights the relative reliability of news. Admittedly,
there are no shortcuts, to connect the dots between various
stories and topics, thereby shaping an overall understanding of
current affairs. It’s vital to stay informed to navigate this
complex landscape and enlighten ourselves.
看起來很華麗對吧！與學生確認後，果然是用ai協助潤飾的。
但這樣的文章真的適合考試嗎？用Rubrics檢視成果又是如何呢？
我的批改建議節錄幾句如下：
1. In addition, engaging with news daily is part and parcel of an
empowered life. In an ever-changing world, traditional shared
values have crumbled, and social media algorithms have created
echo chambers, fueling political polarization.
[Vivian] 這兩句為主題句與延伸句。
由於托福Rubrics要求學生要做到exemplifications (舉例)，
往下我會預期要看到關於social media如何create echo chamber
以及fueling political polarization.
2. Moreover, Neil Postman foresaw how passive entertainment
hinders substantive information and critical discourse.
[Vivian] 同上comment，只有引用是不夠的。
托福寫作要求的是“使用個人經驗與想法”闡述，這裡一樣沒有看到具體的
例子。
而且作者應該要直接說明為什麼每天接觸新聞是有益處的，
而不是花篇幅說明social media的負面效果。
3. Therefore, staying informed through daily news helps us to form
coherent beliefs to overcome pitfalls of nihilism, technology,
and entertainment.
[Vivian] 同上comment，需具體說明如何”helps us to form…”？
4. Widespread sharing of fake news and conspiracy theories on
social media further highlights the relative reliability of news.
[Vivian] 同第二點comment；
題目不是在比較social media與news的reliability，這樣寫會有點離題。

讀到這裡，你應該發現寫作文不是只有詞藻華麗就可以了；
根據Rubrics，如果離題或是例子沒展開，大致就符合Score of 3的描述：
“Addresses the topic and task using somewhat developed explanations,
exemplifications and/or details”
而Score of 3是只要符合 其中一項 就是在這個區間了，
就算文法無可挑惕，句型用字也豐富，但可能很難突破22分。
因此，同學們在使用ai方便的工具時，
我的建議是：
1.只改文法即可，被改的部分要知道為什麼被改，並翻文法書加強練習。
2.若要請ai潤飾，請按照自己原本的寫作程度修改。
若有經過潤飾後學到新的表達方式，要造句練習確保往後可以靈活使用。
3.請一個真正的人類（考過高分的同學、有教學經驗的老師等）
