作者: Binkuo (郭彬)   2019-12-16 09:21:41
Postdoctoral Researcher and Ph.D. students
to study climate change and air quality
We have an excellent opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher and two Ph.D.
students to study multiple climate between atmosphere and land interactions,
including wildfire, black carbon and forest management, across a large
latitudinal gradient in a global scale. Our goal is to estimate the ability
of atmosphere and land to keep pace with climate change, given rising
temperatures, thawing lands and multiple interacting between atmosphere and
land over the world.
The successful candidate would join Joshua Fu research group and
collaborators in Oak Ridge National Laboratory and others in UN and WMO.
Capitalizing on a rich and underutilized empirical dataset of atmosphere
including deposition, the successful candidate will work with the research
group at UT and Oak Ridge to improve how DOE’s Energy Exascale Earth System
Model (E3SM) and ELM-FATES (Functionally Assembled Terrestrial Ecosystem
Simulator) accounts for landscape-scale processes, such as future wildfires,
thereby improving Earth system models that project future global carbon cycle
dynamics including chemistry reactions and climate such as air quality and
depositions.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. in relevant field, excellent programming
skills in Fortran, C/C++, R, excellent skills using ArcMa or NCL and
experience in data mining of ecological, environmental or climatic databases,
mainly biomass uncertainty quantification and AI applications. Desired
qualifications: experience in ecosystem, atmosphere and land surface/carbon
cycle climate modeling.
The position will be located at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and
Oak Ridge National Laboratory at Oak Ridge in Tennessee, USA. If you are
interested or make a recommendation, please contact Dr. Joshua Fu
([email protected]) with the subject line “Research Position Application”.
