Wizards star John Wall on NBA players passing on supermax – ‘I ain’t
turning down no money’
巫師球星John Wall對於NBA球員放棄超級頂薪：「我是不會跟錢過不去的。」
It has been a common theme in the NBA for top players to take discounts to
form “super teams.” In fact, in the recent free agency alone, superstars
like Kawhi Leonard and Kyrie Irving passed on a supermax contract to join
forces with other star players. However, Washington Wizards point guard John
Wall isn’t a fan of such move.
最近NBA似乎有些風氣，一些頂級球星願意降薪好組"超大團"。就像最近的Kawhi Leonard
跟Kyrie Irving就放棄了超級頂薪，好跟其他的明星球員組隊。不過，華盛頓巫師控衛
John Wall不是那種球員。
In an interview with Michael Lee of The Athletic, Wall said that he respects
the decision of other players. Nonetheless, he emphasized that he won’t be
turning down a huge amount of money, citing that he loves basketball and he’
ll play the game no matter what.
在接受The Athletic記者Michael Lee的訪問中，Wall說他對於那些球員做那樣的決定，他
表示尊重。不過，他強調他是不會對那樣一大筆錢說不的，但是他也說他愛籃球，所以不
管如何，他還是會這樣打下去。
“I don’t know. Everybody got their own decision, but where I come from, it’
s “I ain’t turning down no money.” It’s just as simple as that,” Wall
explained.
「我不知道，每個人都可以為自己做決定，只是從我以前養成的觀念來看，『我是不會跟
錢過不去的』，就是這麼簡單。」Wall解釋。
“I’m going to keep it real with you. Without the money, I’m still going to
play the game the way I love to play it because that’s what I love to do.
Kawhi is a quiet guy, stays to himself, I’m really cool with Kawhi, but he
stays to himself, and I guess if you already won championships, you can take
those routes. I’ve never been in those positions where I was that guy to
take those routes. Where I come from, I’m not supposed to be here. … I play
because I love it, but I’m not turning down that kind of money.”
「我要老實跟你說。即使沒有錢，我還是會用我喜愛的方式繼續打籃球，因為籃球就是我
喜歡做的事。Kawhi是個安靜的人，不太跟人交流，那樣的Kawhi我很OK。但是因為他沒有
跟什麼人談，我猜啦，若是球員有拿到過冠軍，他們是可以用那種方式打球。但是，我從
來就沒有在那種狀況過。所以，以我的出身，我根本不應該在這裡...我打球的理由是因為
我喜愛籃球，但是我是不會拒絕那樣一筆錢的。」
The All-Star guard is being practical, to say the least. While many might
criticize him for it, Wall also recently said that winning a ring is not
everything to him. He furthered that he’d rather build his legacy in
Washington and try to win a ring with the team he has rather than joining
forces with other superstars to chase a title.
至少可以說這位全明星後衛真的很實在，僅管很多人因此對他有諸多批評，Wall也說拿到
冠軍對他來說不會是最重要的。他甚至說他寧可在華盛頓巫師打造他自己的傳奇，嘗試在
巫師球隊拿下冠軍，而不是跟其他球星組團好擁抱金盃。
Then again, it’s his opinion, and he’s entitled to it.
不過，這只是他的意見，他也有權利表示這樣的意見。
