Nuggets’ Isaiah Thomas ‘not expecting’ to be honored in return to Celtics

The Denver Nuggets will head to the TD Garden on Monday to face off with the
Boston Celtics. It will signify Isaiah Thomas’ return to the arena — the
place where he called home for several years. The city he represented when he
was considered as an MVP candidate. It will be his first time back in Boston
as an active player. Despite his rich backstory with the organization, the
guard is not expecting to be honored in his return.

“If they don’t do anything, it’s still all love,” Thomas said, per Adam
Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe. “If they do, it’d be cool, too. It’d be
dope, because I put my heart, sweat, and tears, everything I had on that
Garden floor for this organization. But I’m not expecting it.”

Thomas’ split with Boston has been well-documented. Since being traded to
the Cleveland Cavaliers in the summer of 2017, the 30-year-old hasn’t found
the stability that every NBA player hopes for. He finished the 2017-2018
season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Come summer of 2018, he signed with the
Nuggets and it wasn’t up until Feb. 13 when he played his first game in
almost a year.

1.3 rebounds. It may take a while before Thomas returns back to his old self.
Hopefully, head coach Mike Malone gives him more playtime in Boston so he can
prove himself.
