MLB Trade Speculation: 10 Players Who'll Be Dealt over the Winter


Heath Bell
The San Diego Padres attempted to move Heath Bell during the trade deadline
this season, but did not find a package they liked.

It appears as if the Padres will offer Bell arbitration after the season.
He has said he will accept the offer. If this does happen, San Diego could
look to move Bell so they don't have to pay him the money he will get
in arbitration.

B.J. Upton
During the trade deadline, there was a lot of talk that the Tampa Bay Rays
would look to trade B.J. Upton. A deal never came about for the Rays, and they
may now look to trade Upton in the winter.

Desmond Jennings has already reached the majors and looks like he is ready to
play every day. Upton will also bring the Rays a nice group of players that
will help them compete with the Red Sox and Yankees.

Carlos Lee
It will be interesting to see if the Houston Astros' fire-sale will continue
in this offseason. If it does, Carlos Lee is one of the Astros who could be
moved.

There are two problems standing in the way of the Astros trading Lee.
For one, he is owed $18.5 million next season, and he has not justified that
contract. Secondly, Lee has a no-trade clause which could make him difficult
to deal.

Wandy Rodriguez
Wandy Rodriguez is another Houston Astro who could be on the move. The Astros
tried to trade Rodriguez at the deadline this season and had shopped him
around to many teams, but found no takers.

One of the things holding up a trade with Rodriguez was his salary. He will
likely be placed on trade waivers, but if he is not moved in August, there is
a chance he will be moved this offseason.

Angel Pagan
After putting together a great year in 2010, Angel Pagan has not been able to
regain the magic he found last year and has struggled in 2011.

option for the Mets would be dealing him. Pagan would bring back a prospect
who could help New York in the rebuilding process.

Fausto Carmona
Fausto Carmona was one of the top starters on the Cleveland Indians' staff
before the team acquired Ubaldo Jimenez. After that trade, the Indians
considered moving Carmona.

The Boston Red Sox made a run at Carmona, but no deal ever occurred. It seems
likely that the Red Sox will be looking to bolster their rotation once again
in the winter, so it is possible these talks could be restarted.

Jeremy Guthrie
Pitching help is always valued at a premium in Major League Baseball. With next
season looking like it will once again be a rebuilding year for the
Baltimore Orioles, they may look to make some trades.

did not develop the way they had hoped. The Orioles could make Guthrie
available again this winter with the hopes of receiving better offers.

Joakim Soria
It seems every single year at the trade deadline Joakim Soria's name comes up,
and the Kansas City Royals keep him every single season.

This winter may finally be when Soria is dealt. The Royals are about two years
away from putting a very competitive team on the field. By dealing Soria,
Kansas City could bring in the last piece or two that will eventually help
them to an AL Central title.

Kevin Slowey
Kevin Slowey may not have a spot on the Minnesota Twins next season. The Twins

decided to keep him in Triple-A.

Slowey is a non-tender candidate for this winter, but the Twins might look to
move him as well. He will definitely draw interest, and Minnesota would be

Luke Scott
Luke Scott has seemingly fallen out of favor with the Baltimore Orioles
management. His struggles have led to him getting less and less playing time
before a shoulder injury shut him down for the year.

Scott may have very well played his last game in a Baltimore Orioles uniform.
The team will likely look to trade Scott and try to get something in return
