Great day 1 of #Worlds2019 — some thoughts below.
Meta felt like it favored some slower picks. Kayle will be big, and the ‘fast
’ teams had trouble accelerating games vs. the slower teams. I think this
trend will continue.
SKT looked solid, and I actually think they missed several opportunities to
win even more convincingly. FNC wasn’t even close.
TL surprised me. When I saw their draft, I thought it looked like a great
comp for 2018 Worlds. I was so happy when they didn’t tilt after misplaying
a drake fight, and Impact deserves all the credit for creating pressure with
his solo kill of Nuguri which allowed TL to take over.
FPX looked terrible... but I think they will still win the group. LWX looked
like he was inting, and I’m thinking FPX had a combination of day 1 jitters
and underestimating JTeam.
GAM failed to impress, but with the other trends of teams being able to
withstand early aggression, Splyce is well suited to win this matchup, which
they did while playing well.
The other two matchups, iG vs. AHQ, and RNG vs. CG, went as expected.
Can’t wait for day 2! My bold prediction is GRF takes down G2.
