Call for papers
The Institute of Linguistics at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) (Hsinchu,
Taiwan) invites scholars working on Southeast Asian linguistics to the 33rd
Annual Meeting of the Southeast Asian Linguistics Society (SEALS 33), June 15-
17, 2024. SEALS 33 will be a hybrid conference, held concurrently in-person (
GIS NTU Convention Center, Taipei, Taiwan) and online (via Google Meet). A
post-conference workshop on Southeast Asian Linguistics will be held (in-
person) at the Institute of Linguistics, National Tsing Hua University,
Hsinchu, Taiwan on June 18, 2024.
SEALS welcomes contributions that deal with general and applied linguistic
issues (as opposed to cultural or anthropological topics, or acquisition or
teaching methodology) related to languages and linguistics of Southeast Asia (
including the Austronesian, Austroasiatic, Kra-Dai (or Tai-Kadai), Hmong-Mien
(or Miao-Yao), and Sino-Tibetan language families). Possible topics include,
but are not limited to: phonetics and phonology; morphology; syntax; genetic
and areal relationships; historical-comparative studies; language endangerment
; language documentation; language revitalization; semantics; pragmatics;
discourse analysis; sociolinguistic studies; psycholinguistics;
neurolinguistics.
Presentations will be 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes for discussion. Each
individual may present up to one single-authored paper and one joint paper.
Presentations must relate directly to languages spoken in the region of
Southeast Asia.

Abstract submission guidelines
===================================
Abstracts should be written in English and submitted in PDF format.
Abstracts must conform to the following format requirements:
(i) Abstracts must have a clear and informative title.
(ii) Abstracts must be no longer than 300 words. No references are required.
Tables, figures, and examples are permitted only if within the 300-word limit.
**Important note: Abstracts (inclusive of tables, figures, examples, etc.)
longer than 1-page (Letter size or A4) will NOT be considered.
(iii) Style/format: font type/size: Times New Roman or Times, 11 point; single
spaced; Letter size or A4; 1-inch (or 2.54 cm) margins on all sides.
(iv) Abstracts must be fully anonymous: authors’ names, affiliations, or
pictures should not be indicated anywhere in the document.
Submission of abstracts for talks will be accepted beginning December 15, 2023
through January 15, 2024 (11:59pm, Taiwan Time (UTC+8)) via the link below (
Google Form). Notification of acceptance will be given by February 28, 2024.
