Although Steve Nash has ruled out playing for the Los Angeles Lakers this
season, he could still conceivably stick around as a de facto assistant head
coach.

As Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News notes, Lakers head coach Byron
Scott is receptive to the idea of Nash mentoring young guards. This would
allow Nash to contribute to the team, if only in a sideline capacity.

Ultimately, the decision is Nash's to make. His contract is guaranteed, so he
will be paid regardless. It might be painful for him to remain so close to
the court, but it could at least give him a leg up on a coaching career in
the future.

Nash is currently the general manager of Canada Basketball, and he hasn't yet
officially ruled out retirement, being an assistant is just one of his many
options.
