Free agent Carmelo Anthony met with the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday and
heard their pitch as to why he is the right man to become the next face of
the franchise.
The Lakers also made it clear to Anthony they'd offer him a maximum
four-year, $95 million contract if chose to sign with them, according to
sources.

Escorted to his car by Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak on the way out,
Anthony stopped to say hello to reporters and signed autographs for Lakers
fans but declined to comment on the meeting.
"You know I can't say anything right now, but I wanted to stop and say hey,"
Anthony said.

A person who was in the Lakers' pitch said they thought it went "really well"
and added, "I don't know how big of a shot we have, but I think we have a

Another Lakers source described Anthony as "extremely attentive" throughout
the meeting.

Kobe runs late for Melo meeting
Kobe Bryant was not able to make it back from a family vacation in Europe in
time for the meeting, according to sources. Bryant intends to meet with
Anthony later Thursday evening, after Anthony's scheduled meeting with the
New York Knicks following his session with the Lakers, sources said.

Clips want Jordan Farmar
The Lakers have already expressed interest in Farmar as well, but their plan
at point guard for next season is still up in the air with 40-year-old Steve
Nash on the books for $9.7 million, Kendall Marshall expected to be retained
on a non-guaranteed deal worth approximately $915,000 and rookie Jordan
Clarkson, a combo guard out of Missouri, added to the mix after L.A. acquired
him from Washington on draft night for $1.8 million.
Farmar has also heard from a "few other teams" and is "going through the
process" of free agency, according to a league source, knowing full well that
some of the big-ticket free agents such as LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony
are causing many teams to freeze on smaller transactions until those players'
destinations are settled.
