A man mistaken for Australian swimmer Mack Horton online has been abused by
legions of furious Chinese Olympics fans.
Mack, 20, angered rival Sun Yang and his supporters this week when he branded
the swimmer a 'drug cheat' after beating him in the 400m freestyle event.
However Englishman Mark Horton has found himself in the cross-fire with
overseas accounts targeting him on Twitter calling him a liar and demanding
an apology.

'For the record I'm not the Australian swimmer who said something about a
Chinese swimmer #sunyang', the Englishman tweeted after hours of abuse.
Mark had been targeted relentlessly by trolls who accused him of being a
'coward' and a 'sinister villain'.
這名英國人在經過許多小時的騷擾後發了推特說明他並不是"那個霍頓"。
'Not only a liar and a loser in life but also a coward who doesn't have the
guts to admit what he say (sic),' user @summeratjuly posted, followed by a
series of poo emojis.
'Sun is a good athlete! AND he is not a drug cheater! So you should apologise
to him!', Jessica wrote.

'Oh!!! It turns out you are a sinister villain', another social media user
said.
When the trolling failed to subside, Mark was forced to send out a second
message to those wrongly accusing him of being an Olympic athlete, this time
appealing to Mack himself.
'@_mackhorton mate, just apologise!' he pleaded.
'I'm getting abuse for something you said. @SunYang', the Englishman wrote.

The bitter rivalry between Mack Horton and Sun Yang has set the stage for
what will no doubt be an explosive clash when the pair go head-to-head in the
1500 metres this weekend.
Horton has refused to back down from his comments, which the Australian
Olympic Committee have supported.
On Sunday Sun responded to the controversy by declaring 'I am the king, I am
the new world' and denying he even knew who Horton was to Channel 7.
Yang served a secret three-month doping ban in 2014 and news of the
suspension was announced retrospectively by Chinese officials.
