I participated in COSCUP last Saturday & Sunday.
COSCUP is annual conference held by Taiwanese Open source community participants.
I have been participating since in 2006, In the past I have participated in different forms of identify(participants、volunteers、donors、opensource contributers)
And this is my first time as speakers.
There is a welcome party on Friday night. I met a friend over there who I haven't seen for a long time.
she isn't a fellow in the field. because she roommate was also a speaker, she came with him.
She said「I'm a little frightened because this is the first time I saw many engineers」.
I told her not to be nervous, and start to analyze the comsumer group who come to participate.
COSCUP is actually like "大港開唱" or "TED Talks" in the software domain,so some of participants are fans, they come to see idles, and the other is speaker.
There are also some technology enthusiasts, There people were a big group 10 years ago,
but after more and more people participated they separated into small groups.
In addition, most of them came for the IG and Facebook check-in for the event.
10 years ago, I wouldn't have imagined that the speech fair of the great gods in the circle will become another attraction for online influences.
Of course, in the past 6-7 years, g0v was born with the open data and the conference involved a lot more different people on the agenda, including social movement worker, NGO members and government officials.
It's realy hard for me to imagine that when this organized at NTU, because the number of participants was very small,
as long as were people who know someone in the community, the could enter and they was no need to sign up.
Today tickets can be sold out in less than 30 seconds.
From the single-track agenda to the 16-track agenda more and more young people are exposed to opensource and are promoting it.
I always feel that although the world is not pecfect yet, It has been moving towards the beauty I imagined.
