: (CNN)A Japanese theme park which froze 5,000 sea creatures into the floor of
: an ice rink was forced to close the attraction on Sunday after a public
: backlash.
: Fish, crabs and other shellfish were embedded in the ice as part of a specia

: winter attraction, called "Freezing Port," at Japan's Space World theme park
.
: The park advertised it as a "world first" and posted images of the fish on
: its official Facebook site with captions including "I am d... d... drowning,
: s ... s... suffocating."
: Space World manager Toshimi Takeda told CNN Monday the reaction on social

: television.
: "We were shocked to hear the reaction as the ice skate rink was very popular
: since it opened two weeks ago, we had an unprecedented number of visitors,"

: "(But) we had endless opinions about the project, we were shocked ... We are
: sorry for the project and decided to close the rink on that night."
: Takeda told CNN the park would unfreeze the skate rink to remove the fish,

: He added the fish were purchased at a local fish market, and were dead befor

: 'You have no soul'
: After news of the "Freezing Port" attraction broke on Saturday, the response
: on social media was swift.
: "Why is it fun to skate over the frozen?" a Japanese Facebook page called
: Relief Pain Animals said. "It is shocking that this kind of idea was taken u

: Other regular social media users voiced their fury at the park's new

: "You have no soul to plan such an event to begin with," another user called

: In a statement, Space World said it apologized for those who found the ice

: "Therefore we will cancel the event of the Ice Museum from today," the

: All Space World Facebook posts around the attraction have been deleted.

It seems like there are overwhelmingly many negative reactions to this new att
raction. Then from this I shall offer an opinion from the opposite side.
Firstly, what matters really is how the process is done. As the manager said i
n the article, the fish were purchased dead in a local fisher's market before
they were frozen in the rink. These fish were dead. Turning them into an attra
ction and potentially an artistic piece with another layer of meaning isn't so
mething to be ashamed of. On a more philosophical note, once the living is dea
d and no longer experience pain the body is just a merely empty vessel. There
is simply no consciousness of mind.
Secondly, on an economic note, the capital belonged to this cooperation so why
does it matter how they would like spend it to get the highest return? It sho
uldn't matter to what the general public thinks as they hold no obligation to
explain the reasons behind their decisions. You can argue that it's not moral
to do such a thing but in this world is capitalism you do not hold the right t
o judge or criticise; all you have is the power to choose to not go.
So drop this act of pretense, stop acting as if we all were saints, and care a
bout lives of those that are all around us because we, humans, are cynical.
It is just as what Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet act 2 scene 2: There is no righ
t nor wrong but thinking makes it so.
This is just another case where some people who believed that they have high m
orale and advocated to take "the right side" by imposing some kind of "moral s
tandard" and in the end the general public, in order to be viewed as aligned w
ith this false sense of "high morale" and not be vulnerable under the attacks
of socal segregation, fell prey and gave in.
