3. Exceptions
There are exceptions to this convention of not using commas when the
adverbial clause follows the main clause.
3.1 'Although', 'Even though', and 'Whereas'
When there is a strong contrast between two clauses, place a comma for
clauses introduced by whereas, although, though, or even though.
Peter was sad, although he had won a Nobel Prize.
3.2 Setting off Nonessential Clauses
Use commas to set off nonessential clauses, that is, clauses that can be used
as an aside.
I rarely eat fried food, although I like it, because it's unhealthy.
3.3 Comma Before Because
Place a comma before "because" only if needed for clarity.
I didn't do the job, because I was busy. (I didn't do the job due to the fact
that I was busy.)
