請問這裏為什麼用單數動詞was,而不是
were, laughter and cheers不是複數嗎？
這是高中教科書的課文的句子。

是有這樣子的用法http://www.dictionary.com/browse/there?s=t-> Usage note (compound subjects，最近的名詞/主詞)特別是 laughter and cheers 有時是可視為整個是一起的單一名詞(像是 "bread and butter")
