Gallagher departs on loan
30 Jul 2021
Conor Gallagher has completed a move to Crystal Palace that will see him
spend the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Selhurst Park.

It will be a second season on loan in the Premier League for the
21-year-old, who made 32 appearances and scored two goals for West Brom
last term. He has previously spent time at Charlton Athletic and Swansea
City in the Championship, amassing 77 senior games in total over the past
two years.
The midfielder joins an evolving Palace side now managed by former Arsenal
captain Patrick Vieira, as well as reuniting with Chelsea Academy
team-mate and fellow England Under-17 World Cup winner Marc Guehi, who
made a permanent switch to the Eagles earlier this month.
Gallagher has been on the books at Chelsea since the age of eight and won
numerous trophies with our Under-18s, including an unprecedented quadruple
in 2017/18. He embarked on a first move into professional football while
still a teenager after winning the Academy Player of the Year award,
impressing during six months at the Valley in which time he missed just
one Championship game and scored six goals.
In a mid-season switch of clubs he swapped struggling Charlton for
promotion-chasing Swansea, where he joined close friend Guehi and the
pair's England Under-17 manager Steve Cooper. With the Swans, Gallagher
dramatically secured a play-off spot on the final day of the regular
season but the Welshmen were beaten in the semi-finals by Brentford.
Those exploits in the second tier earned the England Under-21
international a Premier League move last summer with West Brom, where he
was a regular in midfield. Despite the Baggies' struggles, first under
Slaven Bilic and then Sam Allardyce, Gallagher played 2,683 minutes of
football and won the Young Player of the Year award for a club that were
ultimately relegated.

Gallagher spent last term at the Hawthorns
After returning for pre-season under Thomas Tuchel and featuring in
friendlies against Peterborough United and Bournemouth, the youngster now
heads across the capital for a season at Selhurst Park.
Palace finished 14th last term and begin their new campaign at Stamford
Bridge against Chelsea, although Premier League rules mean Gallagher will
not be eligible to face his parent club. His debut could therefore come at
home to Brentford the following weekend.
