Hudson-Odoi on strong Chelsea spirit and making an impact against West Brom
27 Sep 2020
Callum Hudson-Odoi praised the strong mentality of the Chelsea side, after
the Blues battled back from 3-0 down to claim a share of the spoils
against West Bromwich Albion yesterday.

The winger was introduced as a half-time substitute at The Hawthorns and
played his part as Frank Lampard's Blues earned a point thanks to goals
from three Chelsea Academy graduates in Mason Mount, Hudson-Odoi himself
and Tammy Abraham.
Despite the half-time scoreline, Callum insists he felt we were still in
the game as he was preparing to come on for the second half and believed
Mount's early goal after the break was crucial.
'Getting the goal through Mason early in the second half helped us, and I
think we all thought that it [a comeback] was on from that point,'
explained Callum.

Callum Hudson-Odoi: "I hope this goal pushes me on, but I'm disappointed
not to get three points"
'It put a lot of pressure onto West Brom from the start, and we were
confident at that point. We were onto them straightaway and we knew we
just had to keep pushing, keep attacking and that the goals would
eventually come for us.
'For me personally, I just wanted to come on and have an input to the
game. We were direct as a team, I was allowed to run at my defender and
put crosses in and I was glad we were able to get our goals.'

Callum's impressive stats against the Baggies
Hudson-Odoi was sent on at half-time by Frank Lampard along with captain
Cesar Azpilicueta, with the pair spending most of the interval out on the
pitch warming up ahead of the second half.
The message in the Chelsea dressing room was clear though: We can still
get something from this game.
While many from the outside presumed the points would be staying with the
Baggies, Callum and his Chelsea team-mates certainly thought otherwise.
'We definitely felt we were still in the game,' said Callum. 'No matter
what the score is, in football you always feel like you have a chance to
turn things around.
'At half-time we all said the same thing, we need to keep our heads up and
get back out there and get the goals we need to turn the game around as
quick as possible.

Hudson-Odoi sweeps the ball home for our second at West Brom
'We needed the goals to get something from this game and I think we all
thought we could turn this around. Even for me while I was warming up, I
felt that if we kept playing the way we were doing, continued to work hard
and attacked then I felt we could get our goals. Luckily we managed to do
that.
'We showed great character to turn things around. Unfortunately we couldn't
get the win, but given that we were 3-0 down we will take the point and
move on.'
Thiago Silva made his Premier League debut for Chelsea at The Hawthorns,
while fellow summer additions Kai Havertz and Timo Werner also both
started for the Blues.
With plenty of healthy competition for places at Stamford Bridge, our
flying winger feels that the dynamic of the squad is looking good and has
praised the spirit within the group.
'I think you can see how good the spirit is here,' added Hudson-Odoi. 'All
the new boys that have come into the squad have gelled really well. They
are improving us as a side, they've all been working really hard in
training and they show out on the pitch that they are quality players.
'We all have the right mentality and the right spirit to go on and win
games. The start wasn't the best, we know that, but we showed what we are
all about by turning the game around and leaving with a point. The new
players have played their part and they've come in and bought into the
mentality that we have at this club.'
