The Biophotonics Imaging Lab at the University of Maryland (College Park, USA) is looking for motivated PhD students to join our group. UMD Engineering School ranks top 20 in the US. Our research program integrates basic optical imaging technology development, translational imaging/sensing devices, pre-clinical / clinical applications, and regulatory sciences. The specific research project will be jointly developed between the PI and the interested student. Projects may be chosen from one or the
combination of the following topics:
* Optical Imaging Technologies
o Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
o Multiphoton Microscopy (MPM)
o Fluorescence and Hyperspectral Imaging
o Needle-based Endoscopy
o Near-IR Spectroscopy and Tomography
* Biomedical Applications
o Renal Physiology (in collaboration with Georgetown Medical Center)
o Brain Function (in collaboration with Maryland Medical Center)
o Cancer Detection (in collaboration with NIH)
* Standards/Phantoms for Optical Imaging (in collaboration with FDA)
Skills/Experience To Be Gained: The student will learn the following skills in preparation for his/her career advancement:
* Principles and instrumentation of various optical imaging systems
* Fabrication process of optical phantoms and imaging devices
* Programming skills for both systems control and image processing
* Research experience with animal models, clinical trials, and regulatory process
* Research aptitude on literature search and critical thinking to formulate research topic
* Presentation skills and manuscript writing
Examples of prior student achievements include Invited talks at International conferences by PhD students, and Best student paper awards at various conferences. Successful PhD graduates also landed desired positions in both Academia and Industry, such as Imaging Engineer at Silicon Valley Company, and Post-Doc Researcher at Harvard Medical School.
Expectations and Requirements: The student should be highly-motivated and dedicated for biophotonics research. Prior experience in optics is strongly preferred. Interested candidates should email: yuchen@umd.edu with a copy of resume. Please visit our website for more information: http://www.bioe.umd.edu/faculty/chen
